The Geography
Grown across Nicaragua’s highlands
Nicaragua’s northern highlands sit between 1,200 and 1,600 meters, where cool nights, mineral-rich volcanic soils, and the cooling shade of native forest canopy produce the cup character these highlands are known for.
The Regions
Two departments in Nicaragua’s northern highlands — Jinotega and Matagalpa — where altitude, volcanic soil, and native shade shape the cup. These are the regions we source from.
Jinotega
Nicaragua’s highest coffee country — ridges climb past 1,300m into cool, misty highlands. Deep, well-drained soils and a wide day-to-night temperature swing slow the cherry and build bright, citric, floral cups.
Matagalpa
Rich volcanic soils and a warmer highland climate around 1,200–1,350m. The department yields fuller-bodied, chocolate-forward, well-balanced cups — dependable everyday lots and standout microlots alike.
